This is, basically, a brand-new team and we needed some time to figure each other out. We’re on a nice streak of top-fives at the moment and we’ve had cars capable of winning at several tracks this year. Darlington always provides us with one of the toughest tests of the year, but we are working well together and I think we all expect to contend for the win, no matter the track. It would mean a lot to me if I could go to Victory Lane at Darlington, a place where names like Petty, Yarborough, Pearson and Earnhardt have won.” Brad Keselowski – No. 22 Ruby Tuesday Dodge Challenger R/T

    EVENT – Royal Purple 200 (147 laps / 200 miles)

    TRACK – Darlington Raceway (1.366-mile egg-shaped oval)

    DATE – Friday, May 7, 2011

    TV / RADIO – ESPN2 (coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. EST) / MRN (broadcast begins at 7:15 p.m. EST)

    Aric Almirola

    No. 88 GT Vodka Chevrolet

“Darlington is very tough. The saying ‘too tough to tame’ fits that place perfect. It’s a fast track, too. They certainly didn’t design it for the speeds we run these cars at today, and that’s one of the reasons it’s so challenging. You’re going 180 mph getting into turn three and you’re coming up on a tight corner where you have to get all your turning done in a hurry. You have to slow way down. The groove down there is really narrow. It’s barely wide enough for two cars to fit on the banking, so passing becomes difficult. There is not much room for error because you run so close to the fence all night. One tiny little mistake and the next thing you know you’re in the fence. You’ll see a lot of guys show up there with wood in their right side door bar because they know they’re going to hit the fence. It may be tough, but it’s a lot of fun in the process.”

    Josh Wise

    No. 7 TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet

“There is a lot you have to remember as you’re going around the track at Darlington, as far as holding your line in certain places. You can run down into one and two, get back to the gas and probably turn the car down to the bottom a lot earlier than you should. But you have to remember to hold it up and make that late break to the apron of turn two.

“Darlington will be a challenge for me, I’m sure. But I’m ready for it. I only have one other start there, but this TaxSlayer.com team is carrying a lot of momentum from the past couple of weeks. We’ve got a lot to build on with this team, and I’m hoping we can come out of there with another good run.”

Team: No. 6 RickyvsTrevor.com Ford Mustang Crew Chief: Mike Kelley Chassis: RK-644

    THE QUOTES

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 6 RickyvsTrevor.com Ford Mustang: WHY DO YOU LIKE RACING AT DARLINGTON? “That place is fun. It’s narrow but you can really drive it hard and normally the harder you drive it the better off you are, except I think I was driving a little too hard the last time I was there [smile]. We were really fast, just got to make sure not to over-drive Turn 3. That seemed to get us in trouble there. And you’ve got to stay off the Turn 2 wall.”

IS THERE ONE SPOT ON THE TRACK THAT’S MORE CHALLENGING THAN ANY OTHER? “Turn 3 is pretty tough. You’ve just got to make sure you get slowed down enough to get it into Turn 3. It’s a lot tighter than one and two.”

THERE IS A LOT MORE CONFIDENCE WITHIN THIS TEAM AND HIGHER EXPECTATIONS THIS SEASON. WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST REASON FOR THE TURNAROUND IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME? “As an organization I think it’s just a testament to how hard Roush Fenway and Ford Racing and all the engineers have worked over simulation and the engine package and chassis package. Our team is staying focused. We know we can do it. We’ve got the speed and if we stay focused and minimize our mistakes we know we can win this championship and win some races. That’s what we’ve been focused on all year.”

    THE FACTS

Stenhouse Jr. is tied with Aric Almirola for fifth-place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship standings, 17 points behind leader Justin Allgaier and four behind fourth-place Reed Sorenson. He is 28 points ahead of seventh-place Trevor Bayne and 31 ahead of eighth-placed Brian Scott…Stenhouse Jr. has racked up more top-10 finishes (six) and more bonus points (five) than any other NNS regular this season…The No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing team will use the same Ford Mustang Friday night at Darlington that Stenhouse Jr. drove to an eighth-place finish at Las Vegas (Nev.) No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet News and Notes

    · Justin Allgaier Heads to Darlington Raceway First in Points… Allgaier took sole ownership of first-place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) championship point standings after a hard-fought third-place finish at Richmond International Raceway. The Riverton, Ill.-native is nine points ahead of Turner Motorsports teammate, Jason Leffler, who sits in third. All three championship contending Turner Motorsports drivers are currently in the top-four, with Leffler in third place and Reed Sorenson in the fourth spot.

    · Darlington by the Numbers… The 24-year-old BRANDT Chevy driver has two NNS starts at Darlington Raceway. He is credited with one top-five and one top-10 finish, with a best start of sixth coming in May of 2010. Allgaier has an average starting and finishing spot of 11.0 and a 100% lap completion rate.

    · This Week’s Impala… The No. 31 BRANDT team will hit the track with chassis TMS-121 this weekend at Darlington Raceway. This chassis last saw racing action at Texas Motor Speedway where Allgaier started 11th and crossed the finish line in the sixth position.

    · In the Loop… Thus far in 2011, Allgaier ranks among the top-10 in several of NASCAR’s loop data statistics: Closers (1st), Laps in the Top-15 (5th), Percentage of Laps Run on Lead Lap (5th), Fastest on Restarts (7th), Fastest Early in the Run (9th), Green-Flag Speed (10th), Average Running Position (10th) and Quality Passes (10th).

    · Mother’s Day… This weekend is a big one for Turner Motorsports marketing partner, the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE). The international nonprofit organization is credited with leading the charge to found Mother’s Day. Past Grand Worthy President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Frank E. Hering, made the first known public plea for “a national day to honor our mothers” in 1904. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed Mother’s Day the second Sunday in May and in 1925 Hering was introduced as the “Father of Mother’s Day”.

    Justin Allgaier on Darlington Raceway:

“Any time you think about race tracks with a lot of history, Darlington Raceway is always at the top of the list. It’s an unbelievable track with such unique character. You have to have a different mindset through turns one and two than three and four. The No. 31 team has been on their game this year with great cars and flawless pits tops that have put us in the position we are in. It will be important to stay focused and leave Darlington as the point’s leader.

    Darlington Nationwide Preview

CORNELIUS, N.C. — During the past two week’s No. 99 Pastrana-Waltrip Racing driver Ryan Truex has gained momentum and confidence. Some of Truex’s recently success could be credited to “driving coach” Matt Crafton. Since Crafton has come on board, Truex has captured a solid finish at Nashville and his Nationwide career-best finish of eighth at Richmond last Friday night.

Crafton, who also coaches action sports superstar Travis Pastrana as he transitions into NASCAR, has 252 starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Additionally, the Truck Series veteran has finished in the top-five in the championship point standings the last three seasons and in third place in 2011. This weekend Crafton will be on hand to help Truex as he makes his first start at Darlington Raceway – the track that is “Too Tough to Tame”.

    RYAN TRUEX QUOTES

ON MATT CRAFTON: “The biggest thing with Matt is having someone up on the spotter stand that knows what it is like behind the wheel. He can give me a driver’s opinion on what I could be doing different to make the car go fast and be more consistent. He has a lot of experience on all these tracks we race and he can help me with the best way around. I trust Matt a lot, because I know he knows what he is talking about and he has done all this stuff before. We get along great, and the past couple weeks he has been a great help. The past two weeks he’s been a huge help for me on the track during practice and the race.”

ON DARLINGTON: “I have never raced at Darlington before. I have only watched my brother race there. It looks like a place where you really need to take care of your race car. Things seem to happen really quick there and you can get yourself into the wall pretty easily. It’s one of those places where you need to learn all the lines to be good. I am going to have to lean a lot on my brother and Matt Crafton for advice and knowledge. I will also do simulation races on iRacing this week to practice and get ready for this weeks race at Darlington.”

ON MOMENTUM AND CONFIDENCE: “Having momentum and confidence in yourself helps a lot when you show up at the race track. Nashville was a big help for my confidence and momentum for the team because we ran strong and had a good car at the end of the race. We didn’t get the finish that we wanted, but we ran strong. I felt like we had some momentum going into Richmond. I felt like Jerry Baxter (crew chief), the crew and I have started to gel and have good communication with one another. That momentum and confidence in each other led us to a good finish last weekend. I think the momentum we have now is going to help us this weekend in Darlington. Last week really gave the entire team confidence. We all know we have the cars to run up front. I think momentum is a big part of racing, and I think we have some on our side now.”

    NOTES OF INTEREST

    · Michael Waltrip Racing, Gary and Blake Bechtel and Travis Pastrana own Pastrana-Waltrip Racing that fields Toyota Camrys out of the MWR shop in Cornelius, N.C. The Bechtels’ have owned cars in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series since 1990. The Morgan Hill, Calif. residents’ teams have visited victory lane 10 times in the Nationwide Series.

    · With his eighth-place finish last Friday night at Richmond, Truex became the first rookie to capture a top-10 finish in the 2011 Nationwide Series season.

    · Truex will sign autographs at the Michael Waltrip Racing merchandise hauler on Friday from 1:30 – 2 p.m.

    · Truex is the only teenager to win back-to-back K&N Pro Series East titles (2009 & 2010), and he is the first driver to bring a championship to Michael Waltrip Racing.

·Dancing with “the Lady in Black”… The Darlington, S.C.-based track is a great circuit for Long Beach, Calif-native, Jason Leffler. In eight NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts at the legendary speedway, Leffler has claimed two top-five and five top-10 finishes. He is credited with leading 17 laps, with his best finish of second coming in his 2009 appearance. Both of his top-five finishes have come in the last two NNS races at the track (2nd 2009, 5th 2010).

·In the Loop… Leffler is in the top-10 in several categories in NASCAR’s pre-race loop data statistics at Darlington Raceway including: fastest early in a run (8th), fastest late in a run (6th), speed in traffic (6th), fastest lap run (6th) and green-flag passes (7th). He is listed in the top-five in numerous categories including: average running position (5th), driver rating (5th), quality passes (5th), green-flag speed (4th), laps led (5th) and laps in the top-15 (1st).

·Solid Season… In nine starts in 2011, Leffler has four top-10 finishes. He has completed 99.9% of possible laps and has an average finish of 11.1. He has been inside the top-three in the NNS driver point standings since the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway.

In eight events throughout 2011, Leffler and his team, including crew chief Eddie Pardue, will make the jump to the No. 30 Chevrolet. The number swap proved valuable for Leffler and his team in 2010, in eight starts behind the wheel of the No. 10 machine he scored seven top-10 and three top-five finishes! Continuing the tradition, in three starts in the No. 30 Chevrolet in 2011 Leffler has two top-10 finishes.

·This week’s Impala… The No. 30 AccuDoc Solutions team will hit the track with chassis TMS-127 under the lights at Darlington Raceway. This is a brand new chassis in the Turner Motorsports stable.

Jason Leffler on racing at Darling Raceway

“Darlington is one of the toughest tracks we go to. It is both physically and mentally demanding. You have to muscle your way through every single lap there, but you have to be smart, too. To be fast and get around the track you have to be so close to the wall and if you lose focus for one second you’re going to get that famous Darlington stripe. If you get a win at Darlington you add your name to a legendary list and I want to be on that list in this AccuDoc Solutions Chevrolet Friday night.”
