Seeking: Single or married men, 18-35, must enjoy fast cars and having a good time

Seeking:  Single or married men, 18-35, must enjoy fast cars and having a good time….and like being harassed at airports.

    Shame on you.

You probably clicked on this link, thinking that I was looking for a hot date.

    Well, I’m not.

Actually, believe it or not, NASCAR is looking for a guy, any guy (preferably in groups of hundreds or thousands), between the ages of 18-35. Oh, and before I forget, I really don’t think they care what age you are, ‘8 to 80’ (following one ‘dirty old man’ joke) even works, but right now, the 18-35 demographic is disappearing at an alarming rate, so I don’t think the France Cartel is too picky as to who shows up for a good time.

    The good part?

On this particular date, you don’t have to buy dinner, open a door, or even be considerate of their feelings. You don’t even have to leave the house.

    The bad part?

To get the full effect, instead of just watching a race on TV, you’ll need to see a race in person, which means you will have to spend some money. A lot of money.  Oh, and unless you’re driving to a NASCAR race, you’ll probably be flying, which means, that with the new TSA (Transparent Security Administration, because it’s not designed to actually work) ‘enhanced’ security guidelines, you’ll get to be a lot more friendly with the security goons at your local airport….oh yeah, and at the airport closest to the event in question….a truly-wonderful ‘two-fer’.

And on a side note….has anyone stopped to consider what these new ‘enhanced security guidelines’ enacted by the Oba-mao administration are going to do to race attendance?

Just in case you’ve been really spending too much time focusing on NASCAR, and not taking a moment to see what’s going on in the world around you, these new ‘security guidelines’ involve a new type of body scanner that gives a frightening clear view of your family jewels….and other body parts, if you’re not a guy….and there is some indication that the images taken from these scanners are somehow now popping up on the internet….oh, and if you’re not up for other people taking a gander at whether or not you made a good grade on the evolutionary scale (concerning the family jewels department), men and women with surgical gloves on await you in a side room to give you a full pat-down, lifting up various bodily components (both men and women have them, I’ll leave it to your imagination as to what I’m talking about) to verify you aren’t packing a 10-megaton nuclear warhead in either your Victoria’s Secret undergarments (both the upper and lower), or your Hanes tighty-whities.

Oh, and by the way? There is no other option. Once you’re in the airport….you’re screwed. One man who attempted to defy both searches, and was kicked off of his flight….he’s facing a world of hurt right now. Do some searching, and you’ll find out what I’m talking about. For all intents and purposes, that man has become a hero, and is now facing the mother of all legal battles.

I’m really not trying to scare you right now….I don’t have to. NASCAR, and other racing series (oh yeah, what about the ‘other’ guys?) are already facing a kick in the shins from this disastrous economy, and depending on who you talk to, this is only the beginning….and now, those who actually attend the races are going to be harassed further, viewed unclothed via’ electronic means or groped (if they fly), and this is supposed to be good for the sport (or any sport, for that matter)?

    There’s a two-fold issue here:

First, once people realize what’s going on in the airports (I don’t have enough time to type out the horror stories already coming out), and how this administration is now attempting to destroy the airline industry….they’re not going to want to fly….anywhere. I don’t want to fly anywhere. And I haven’t even been on a plane in at least a decade. I haven’t been in an airport but once those same ten years (August of this year, fetching my sister from a flight, you just gotta love the hour-and-a-half wait in line to get on a plane).

I’m not scared of flying….I love planes (I’m a WWII Aviation nut). These new guidelines haven’t deterred me from wanting to fly, and I’m somewhat-comfortable enough with what I was equipped with from God that I’m not worried about people seeing me digitally-unclothed in a TSA scanner.

However, I’m not going to play the game. And that’s really what this is. A game. A game played by people who weren’t elected into office by the voting public, and since they aren’t answerable to that same voting public…there aren’t really any consequences to their actions, are there?

And we’re the ones who suffer. And those who are suffering? We did some housecleaning a couple of weeks ago at the polls. We’ve got another round in 2012, provided we last that long. There are some seriously-scary problems headed our way, and I don’t know how it’s going to turn out.

Getting back to the airport thingie, the aeronautical (which sort of means ‘flying’ for those of you who vote Democrat) public, whether they are folks who enjoy going to NASCAR races, or fly to see relatives they really had no business moving ten states away from, they’re seriously going to re-think their travel plans once they realize what’s going on. This is bad for auto racing in general, not just for the France Cartel.

I talk to dozens of people a day. It is part of my day job. Nobody wants to fly now. And nobody I know really wants to be stuck in a seat on a plane, sitting next to a Democrat (there is some discussion as to which is worse; the security gate, or being stuck in a seat next to someone who votes ‘D’).

Wait a minute….I was supposed to be writing a ‘humorous’ editorial here, wasn’t I?

    Meanwhile, back at the ranch….

Part two of the ‘two-fold’ issue: NASCAR is really going to have to make some changes to the cars, the tracks, and the type of racing they’re doing, something so spectacular (as opposed to craptacular) as to make people want to forget about the horrors at the airport.

This will be addressed in another editorial….but for now, in spite of all of the terrors that the outside world is trying to foist upon you, NASCAR would still like to take you out on a date….remember, at the very least, you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own chair/couch/loveseat/anti-gravity field/iron maiden to enjoy the outing.

If at first you don’t succeed, call it ‘the Car of Tomorrow’.

    Verizon Team News and Notes

    · This Week’s Verizon Dodge … Justin Allgaier will pilot Penske Racing chassis PRS-007 in Saturday afternoon’s Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This is the same Verizon Dodge that Allgaier scored his first NASCAR victory with at Bristol Motor Speedway in March. The 2009 Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year then raced it at Kentucky Speedway in June, where he started third and finished eighth, at BMS in August, where the Riverton, Ill.-native started fourth and finished 33rd after being involved in an incident that eliminated him from contention after 186 of 250 laps, and most recently at Auto Club Speedway in October, where he started 11th and finished eighth.

    · Allgaier at Homestead … In two previous NNS starts at HMS, Allgaier has recorded one top-20 finish and has completed 97.8 percent of the laps contested (391 of 400). Additionally, the 24-year-old driver has an average starting position of 23rd and an average finish of 24th.

One Race Remaining … With 34 of 35 races of the 2010 season in the record books, Allgaier has accumulated two poles, one win, eight top-five and 20 top-10 finishes, an average starting position of 11.7 and an average finish of 11.5. Allgaier has led 221 laps of competition and has completed 97.6 percent of the laps contested (6,141 of 6,289) so far this season.

End of an Era … The season-ending 300-miler will mark the end of an era as Allgaier makes his final start for Penske Racing, and team sponsor Verizon makes its final appearance on the No. 12 NNS entry. Over the course of their two-year relationship, Allgaier, Verizon and Penske Racing accumulated three poles, one win, 11 top-five and 32 top-10 finishes in 69 races.

Get to the Points … Allgaier ranks fourth in the NNS championship point standings heading into this weekend’s event at HMS. He trails current point leader and Penske Racing teammate Brad Keselowski by 930 points, and third-place contender Kyle Busch by 195 points.

Best in Class … Allgaier’s fourth-place position in the point standings is best among full-time, Nationwide Series-only drivers. Allgaier leads fellow Nationwide-only driver Trevor Bayne, currently ranked eighth, by 658 points.

Penske Racing at Homestead … In six previous NNS starts at HMS, Penske Racing entries have recorded one win (Ryan Newman, November, 2005), one top-five and two top-10 finishes along with one pole award. Penske Dodges have been atop the leaderboard for 67 circuits in their time at Homestead, and have completed 924 of 1,200 laps contested.

Penske Racing in 2010 … With one race remaining in the 2010 season, Penske Racing’s two NASCAR Nationwide Series entries have recorded seven poles, seven wins, a combined 33 top-five and 48 top-10 finishes. Penske Dodges have completed 12,429 of 12,578 laps contested, and have been atop the leaderboard for 1,368 laps with drivers Allgaier and Keselowski.

    · Meet the Driver … Fans can meet Allgaier on Thursday, November 18 from 6 – 7 p.m. EST at the Verizon Wireless store located at 13623 S. Dixie Hwy. in Miami, Fla. On Saturday, November 20, he will sign for fans at the Penske Racing souvenir trailer, located in the midway at HMS from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.

    Justin Allgaier on Homestead-Miami Speedway

“Racing at Homestead is a lot of fun. You can race three-and-four wide in the corners, but everyone has to funnel in line when you get to the straightaways. For the most part, it’s an action-packed race. It’s a cool weekend because everyone knows that’s their last chance to win for the year. This year will be even more interesting given the fact that it will be the last race for the current Nationwide Series cars. Everyone pushes just a little harder in that race, because the finish you leave Homestead with can do more for you, or more to hurt you heading into the off season. So, leaving Homestead with a good finish is extremely important as it sets the tone for the teams as they get ready for 2011.”

Crew chief Chad Walter on Homestead-Miami Speedway

“I’m looking forward to a strong run to close out the season with Justin in Miami. We have made significant progress in our intermediate program this year, and we hope to finish strong with the last race of the current Nationwide Series car. To be able to give Justin a win would be a terrific parting gift. To do that, we’ll have to beat the No. 18 team and Kyle Busch, who will be the odds-on favorite this weekend. It would mean a lot to us to be able to accomplish that, knowing how successful that team has been all year long.”

TOYOTA TIDBITS – November 15 – 21, 2010 Here Are the Headlines: Hamlin No. 1 Heading to Homestead Bodine Wins Second Truck Series Championship Sponsafier2 Winner Announced

HAMLIN HOLDS LEAD: Camry driver Denny Hamlin remains the leader in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Chase championship point standings following Sunday’s race at Phoenix International Raceway. Hamlin’s 12th-place finish enabled him to hold a 15-point advantage over second-place Jimmie Johnson, and is 46 points ahead of third-place Kevin Harvick heading to the season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The 29 -year-old Chesterfield, Va.-native led the most laps (190 of 312) at the one- mile Arizona oval. However, Hamlin pitted for fuel and two tires with 14 laps remaining and returned to the track in the 19th position before making up seven spots to finish 12th.

HOMESTEAD HIGHLIGHTS: Last year, Hamlin earned the first NSCS win at Homestead-Miami Speedway for a Toyota driver, leading the field thre e times for a race-high 71 laps, including the final 45 circuits. Hamlin has three top-three finishes in five starts at Homestead. Last November, Kyle Busch also recorded a top-10 finish at Homestead with an eighth-place result.

LOGANO LOOKING GOOD: Camry driver Joey Logano earned a pair of third-place results at Phoenix. Logano was the highest- finishing Toyota driver in the NSCS race with a third-place effort. In the past five starts, the 20-year-old has recorded five consecutive top-10 finishes, including three straight top-fives. Logano has finished seventh (Charlotte), sixth (Martinsville), fifth (Talladega), fourth (Texas) and most recently third at Phoenix. In Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Phoenix, Logano started from the pole and led 23 (of 200) laps en route to a third-place finish — his 23rd top-10 in 24 series starts this year.

BODINE CLINCHES TRUCK CHAMPIONSHIP: Todd Bodine earned his second career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) driver’s championship Friday in Phoenix. Bodine finished 12th to take a 202-point lead over second-place Aric Almirola in the point standings after Phoenix — 195 points are the maximum available at this weekend’s race at Homestead. Bodine won the first driver’s championship for Toyota in NASCAR’s three premier series with his inaugural NCWTS title in 2006. This season, the 46-year-old driver has tallied four wins, 16 top-fives and 19 top-10 results in 24 starts.

PHOENIX FLASHBACK: Tundra drivers earned five top-10 finishes in Friday’s NCWTS race at Phoenix. Busch was Toyota’s highest-finishing driver with a runner-up result to race-winner Clint Bowyer, and helped Kyle Busch Motorsports increase its lead to 120 points over Germain Racing in the NCWTS owner’s point standings with just one race remaining. Tundra drivers Almirola (fifth), Mike Skinner (sixth), David Starr (eighth) and Justin Lofton (ninth) also earned top-10 results at Phoenix.

HOLMES NOTCHES WEST CHAMPIONSHIP: Camry driver Eric Holmes won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West (NKNPSW) championship Saturday with a 16th-place finish in the season-finale at Phoenix to help Toyota drivers sweep the NASCAR regional series titles in 2010. Driving the Bill McAnally Racing No. 20 Camry, Holmes won five of 12 events in 2010 en route to his third series title. The 36-year-old Escalon, Calif., native previously won the NKNPSW championship in 2006 and 2008. Holmes joins two-time defending NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) champion Ryan Truex to become the first Camry drivers to sweep the NASCAR regional series titles in the same season since Toyota joined each series in 2007.

AND THE WINNER IS…: The Toyota ‘Sponsafier 2’ contest-winner was unveiled at Phoenix and the car design called ‘Lou Gehrig aka ALS’ was the grand prize winner. The design, created by Jeff Hallowell of Maize, Kan., beat out more than 52,000 entries. Hallowell, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2002, and his son, Ethan, designed a No. 18 Toyota Camry wrapped with the ‘Lou Gehrig aka ALS’ artwork that featured American flags, baseballs and racing flames, along with messaging to support the fight against ALS. • Jason Leffler hopes to leave Homestead-Maimi Speedway seventh in the 2010 championship driver standings

    JASON LEFFLER QUICK FACTS

    No. 10 ABF Toyota Camry

    Homestead-Miami Speedway

    Ford 300

    November 20, 2010

    · Leffler back behind the wheel of the No. 10 ABF Toyota Camry… In the 2010 season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) this weekend, Leffler will pilot Turner Motorsports’ No. 10 entry. During the 2010 season, Leffler has spent time behind the wheel of the No. 10 for eight races and the No. 38 for the balance of the full NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) schedule.

    · Leffler looking to finish the seventh in the driver championship point standings…. Going into the NNS race last weekend at Phoenix, Leffler was sitting eighth in the driver point standings and had the potential to take over seventh. Unfortunately, an engine failure cut his day short and, as a result, he dropped two spots in the standings to 10th. With a strong finish this weekend at HMS, Leffler could potentially work his way back up to finish the year in the seventh-place, of which he is currently 80 points behind.

    · Leffler lucky in the No. 10… Leffler has certainly had an up and down season in 2010, but his luck seems to turn positive when he climbs behind the wheel of the No. 10 Toyota. In seven races behind the wheel of the No. 10, he has claimed three top-five and six top-10 finishes.

    · Leffler a solid contender at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS)… In seven NNS starts at the 1.5-mile oval, Leffler has a pair of fourth-place finishes (2003 and 2008) and has finished outside of top-20 on only one occasion. He has an average start of 17.3 and an average finish of 14.0 with zero DNF’s.

    · Leffler and Turner Motorsports teammate, Reed Sorenson, to participate in the NASCAR Championship Drive! Leffler and Sorenson will participate in driver Q&A and sign autographs for fans on Thursday, November 18 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. ET. The two-day fan festival will take place in Miami’s South Beach. Included in the festivities will be a grand-arrival parade of NASCAR race team “haulers” convoying on Miami Beach to kick off the free two-day fan fest and concert. Scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Miami Beach at Lummus Park (between 7th and 9th Streets), is the award winning Zac Brown Band.

    · Turner Motorsports 2011 plans announced… Recently, Turner Motorsports announced that its driver line-up for the 2011 season will include the return of a number of familiar faces such as Kasey Kahne, Reed Sorenson, Jason Leffler, James Buescher, Ricky Carmichael and USAC superstar, Brad Sweet. The team has also added NNS standout, Justin Allgaier, to their stable of drivers. Turner Motorsports will continue their relationship with General Motors and the Chevrolet brand and has created alliances with Hendrick Motorsports, who will provide engine support for both its NNS and NCWTS programs, Kevin Harvick Inc. for body and aero support, and Earnhardt Technology Group for drive train and suspension technology assistance. The team will field three full-time entries in both the NCWTS and NNS.

    · Leffler on SIRIUS’ Morning Drive every Wednesday… Don’t forget to tune in to SIRIUS Radio’s “Morning Drive” with Mike Bagley and Pete Pistone every Wednesday at 10:30am to hear Leffler’s take on recent events in the Nationwide Series and what you can expect from the week’s upcoming race.

Leffler on the 2010 racing season

“Well, this has definitely been a rocky season. It’s been so frustrating because so many things have happened out of our control. Mechanical failures have really been an issue for us this year and that’s hard to take when everyone works so hard throughout the week and the weekend to get these cars ready to race. I just can’t thank our sponsors, especially Great Clips and ABF Freight, enough for sticking with us through thick and thin. They have been such a great supporters of us over the years and I am so proud to represent them both on and off the track for the last five years.

Looking ahead, I can honestly say I only see great things for Turner Motorsports. Steve Turner is a racer at heart and is doing everything that needs to be done to ensure that we will come out of the box in Daytona, battling for wins each and every week. We have already turned our focus to 2011, have re-established our goals and are starting to work towards achieving those goals. When we hit the track in 2011, we will be ready to contend for the championship.”

    Equipment Information

The No. 10 ABF team will unload chassis #023 in this weekend’s Ford 300. Leffler has driven this car to a total of four top-10 finishes including races at Kansas Speedway (10th), Chicagoland Speedway (5th), Atlanta Motor Speedway (7th) and Texas Motor Speedway (6th)..

  • Robert Richardson, Jr. to round out the 2010 season at Homestead for R3 Motorsports

CHINA GROVE, N.C. (November 16, 2010) – R3 Motorsports is going to end the season like they started with Robert Richardson, Jr. in the No. 23 North Texas Pipe Chevrolet at Homestead-Miami Speedway for Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race.

This will be Richardson’s first start at the 1.5-mile oval in South Florida since 2007. Locked into the top-30 in Owner’s Points for the start of the 2011 season allows R3 Motorsports the opportunity to concentrate on one thing – go race. And, have fun doing it, too.

Speaking of, team owner Robert Richardson, Sr. has brought the shop guys down to join the road crew for some Florida sunshine. After the racing action on Saturday, the team is heading out deep-sea fishing to try their luck and lures in the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean first thing Sunday morning.

Fast Facts: This will be Richardson’s 69th NASCAR Nationwide Series race of his career. Through that span, the 28-year old native of McKinney, Texas has achieved six top-20 finishes with his career best finish of 15th coming at ORP in July of this year. This will be start No. 23 for him in the No. 23 this year, as well. This season, he’s achieved two of his top-20 finishes and completed 94.4 percent (3,901 of 4,131) of the laps contested.

Track Facts: Richardson will be making his second start at HMS, with the first taking place in 2007. In that event, an engine problem knocked him out of competition 139 laps into the 200-lap race. Having finished 20 of the 22 races this season, Richardson is looking to go the distance in the NNS finale for a good finish.

Car Facts: Steve Plattenberger and team will roll chassis No. 43 off the R3 hauler in South Florida this weekend. This car was last raced at Atlanta Motor Speedway with Robert Richardson, Jr. finishing 33rd after electrical problems sent him to the garage for nine laps. Before that, Alex Kennedy raced it at the first Gateway event where he finished 28th after getting a flat tire just eight laps into the race.

Did you know: The winningest driver at Homestead is the one and only “Front Row” Joe Nemechek? He’s been to Victory Lane three times (’97, ’99 & ’01) compared to Jeff Burton’s two trips to the Winner’s Circle in ’98 and ’07. In the latter event, Burton did set the mark for slowest qualifier (30th) to go on to victory.

    Robert Richardson, Jr. Quotes

Thoughts for the weekend in Homestead: “Well, it’s been awhile since I raced there, so the first practice is going to be real important for myself and the team. We’ll use that time to get our car dialed in to see how it handles through the turns. The second practice will be closer to the time we’re going to be racing on Saturday, so that will helps us with track conditions and how the car reacts once the sun goes down.

“I’m looking forward to logging some laps there and closing out this season on a good note. And, we’re going to treat the guys to a fishing trip Sunday morning. After all the hours, travel and hard work they’ve put in this year, they deserve to have a little fun in the sun. We did it last year and everyone had a good time. I think we even caught some fish.”

The Machine…The No. 6 Ford will have the familiar blue, red and silver of longtime sponsor CitiFinancial this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. CitiFinancial is the primary sponsor for 24 races in 2010 with Stenhouse. The team will use chassis #RK-378 in Homestead. Stenhouse used this chassis four times in 2010. It was most recently at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this month where he started seventh, led 27 laps and finished 11th.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway:

“I can’t believe this is the last race of the year. I have learned so much and look forward to ending the year with another solid run. The car that we are taking is one of the best we have so we should be fast right off the truck. I have never raced at Homestead before but Mike (Kelley) has a lot of experience and success there so I will lean on him. I also plan on talking to Carl (Edwards) about the line around there and I look forward to what he says. I also hope to clinch the Raybestos Rookie of the Year title with a solid run. It’s our main focus right now.”

Crew Chief Mike Kelley on racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway:

“I am looking forward to Homestead this weekend. We have had great success there and there is no reason to believe we won’t end the season with our best finish. Personally, I have had this race circled since the beginning of the season. Even though Ricky has not been to Homestead-Miami Speedway, I am very confident we’ll have a car that will be fast all weekend. We are taking the same car that we had in Texas (led 27 laps) but we’ve made it even better. As a company, Homestead has been a place where we have turned heads and I have no doubt that we will do the same thing this weekend.”

  • Sam Hornish Jr. NNS Homestead-Miami Speedway Preview

Hornish last raced in the NNS Series in 2008, when he made a total of eight starts and earned an average starting position of 19.4 with a best start of eighth (Watkins Glen International), and an average finish of 21.2 with a best finish of 11th (Darlington Raceway).

    · From 2006 to 2008, Hornish made a total of 19 Nationwide Series starts scoring five top-15 finishes. Hornish also captured one top-five, three top-10 and seven top-15 starting positions while competing in a limited NNS schedule over the three-year period.

    · Hornish has an impressive racing history at Homestead-Miami Speedway in IndyCar Series competition. The three-time series champion has a total of seven IndyCar starts at HMS, capturing three victories and six top-three finishes along with two pole positions. In the open-wheel ranks, Hornish earned an average start of 3.9 at the 1.5-mile oval with an average finish of third, completing 1399 of 1400 possible laps and leading for a total of 461 circuits.

    · Hornish will reunite with his former Cup Series crew chief Chris Carrier who will sit atop the No. 26 pit box for Saturday’s Nationwide Series race at HMS. Carrier served as crew chief on the No. 77 Cup Series team during the first part of Hornish’s rookie campaign in 2008. The veteran crew chief has worked with development driver Parker Kligerman over the past two seasons in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

    · The No. 26 Dodge will feature primary sponsor Alliance Parts for Saturday’s 300-mile race at HMS. Alliance Parts is a brand of Daimler Trucks North America LLC, the largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America and a leading manufacturer of Class 4-8 vehicles. Daimler Trucks North America produces and markets commercial vehicles under the Freightliner, Western Star and Thomas Built Buses nameplates.

    Alliance Parts Team Quotes

“I like Homestead-Miami Speedway; it’s been one of my favorite places for many years. Unlike other intermediate venues that are tri-ovals, both ends of the track are exactly the same with two straightaways in between. The way you get into the corners at Homestead is unlike anywhere else. It’s a unique track and a great place to have the final race of the season.

“I am really looking forward to racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this weekend in Homestead, the site of my second career NASCAR start in 2006. I feel that I have learned a lot about stock cars in a relatively short amount of time. Although I’ve spent the past two years racing solely in the Sprint Cup Series, I have always felt that Nationwide races are competitive, action-packed and a lot of fun. As we work to finalize our plans for 2011, it feels good to end this season with a little excitement. We really hope to have a solid performance in the Alliance Parts Dodge this weekend.” ~Sam Hornish Jr.

“We are all excited to have Sam compete in the Nationwide Series race this weekend. Sam is a true competitor with solid performances in both the NASCAR Cup and Nationwide Series, as well as in the IndyCar Series. Penske Racing is proud to feature Alliance Parts on the No. 26 Dodge at Homestead-Miami Speedway as they are an important partner to our organization. Like our team, Alliance Parts is dedicated to quality, performance and proven results. Together, we hope to achieve those very things on the racetrack this weekend.” ~Roger Penske

“Homestead-Miami Speedway is a unique venue. The fast 1.5-mile track has a lot of grip in cool conditions, but turns into a high-speed skating rink when the tires become worn while racing under the Miami sun. The progressive banking in the corners leads to multi-groove racing, and there are some bumps that give the place character.

“I am looking forward to racing at Homestead for several reasons. One is simply the privilege to show up at any race with equipment of this caliber. Also, it’s going to be great to be teamed up with Sam again. I really feel there is some unfinished business there, and that motivates me even more. Sam is a stand-up person and a talented race driver that has accomplished a lot in his career. We are going to Homestead with a strong performance in mind. To me, that is the best way to welcome our race sponsor this weekend and make them proud to allow us to represent them.” ~crew chief Chris Carrier

    time in 2010 as well.

season, Braun has scored 10 top-15 finishes, five top-10 finishes and

“That seventh-place finish in Phoenix last weekend was a really great
momentum booster and has Chad [Norris, crew chief] and the guys ready to
do it again one last time this weekend.  Homestead is a track that
I’ve had success at in both the Truck Series and back in my sports
car days and I’m excited to see what we can do there with our Con-way
Freight Ford.  We got a top-15 finish with this chassis in California a
few weeks ago and I believe we can better that for sure this
    weekend.”

Crew chief Chad Norris, on the season finale in Homestead:
“Coming off a good run at Phoenix with Colin and the Con-way Freight
Ford, we are excited for the finale at Homestead to finish out the
season with a solid top five or a win.  We are all thrilled to be in
Miami for Ford weekend and for the last race with Con-way Freight for
the season.  Colin has been pretty good there in the Truck Series and we
are ready to build on his strong performances that he has had there in
    the past.”

  • Kevin Harvick Homestead-Miami Speedway Preview (No. 33 NNS)

RETURN TO MIAMI: For the first time since 2007, two-time Nationwide Series champion Kevin Harvick will return to Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway to compete in the Ford 300. He has completed 97 percent of laps attempted (1361 of 1403 laps) and has led 384 laps. In addition to making his first start since 2007, this will also mark Harvick’s first Nationwide Series start at Miami in a Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) car.Even though he has not competed in the Nationwide Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway since 2007, Harvick has competed in both the Truck and Cup Series in between the gap.

Harvick enters the weekend as the defending Truck Series winner, but is not scheduled to compete in the Truck Series race on Friday night. He has competed in five Truck Series events at the track, earning one win, three top-five and three top-10 finishes. For the Cup Series, Harvick has nine starts with four top-five and seven top-10 finishes.

IT’S A WRAP: As the Nationwide Series season concludes this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the No. 33 KHI team with co-owner DeLana Harvick sits third in the Nationwide Series Point Standings. Having seen Harvick, KHI newcomer Elliott Sadler, four-time Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday, Mike Bliss and Max Papis in the driver’s seat this season, the team has earned four poles, three wins, 20 top-five and 29 top-10 finishes.

…AND THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS! At the conclusion of the Nationwide Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the countdown will begin as teams feverishly begin working towards the start of the 2011 season. Once the race is complete in Miami, there will be 90 days until the first Nationwide Series race of the 2011 season at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway where Clint Bowyer will be behind the wheel of the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet for the first time in his career.

BEFORE THE RACE: QUOTES WITH DRIVER KEVIN HARVICK:

Why is Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway one of your favorite tracks? “Miami is one of those race tracks that you don’t know when it is going to stop aging.  It seems like every time we return to the track it loses a little grip, which is a good thing.  Since they repaved the track a few years back it has become one of my favorites.  You can move all around trying to find a groove that works for you. There are a lot of different places where you can make your car work.  For me it has been a lot of fun to race on and I look forward to going back this time around.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: This week the No. 33 Jimmy John’s crew will unload chassis No. 053 for team co-owner Kevin Harvick at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This chassis was last on track at Kansas Speedway where Harvick started the race third and led 43 laps before finishing the race fourth. Prior to Kansas, this chassis was on track at Kentucky Speedway with Mike Bliss where he started the race sixth and led 13 laps before a late-race spin relegated the team to a 24th-place finish. This chassis was previously on track at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway where Harvick piloted the car to an eighth-place finish, Las Vegas Motor Speedway where Harvick won his first Nationwide Series race for sponsor Rheem and Auto Club Speedway where a failed engine ended the team’s strong run with a 38th-place finish.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: For the final Rheem race of the 2010 season, Kevin Harvick piloted the No. 33 Rheem Solar Heaters Chevrolet to a solid second-place finish. Starting the 200-lap event from the fourth spot, Harvick remained in the top nine for the entire race and rebounded from a slow pit stop to finish solidly in the second position. The finish marked his 25th top-10 finish of the 2010 season.
